CHOQUEQUIRAO (4 DAYS)
We will visit the little known or explored ruins of Choquequirao that have been compared in their beauty and importance to Machu Picchu.
We will pass through different ecological zones, seeing the nature change in every zone that we pass. We will descend to and cross the River Apurimac and then ascend until reaching the magnificent Inka constructions, where we will enjoy beautiful views from their summits.
Itinerary
Day 1: CUSCO- CAPULIYOC-CAMPING SANTA ROSA
We will collect you from your hotel and travel to Capuliyoc, passing through the towns of Limatambo, Curawasi and Cachora (2910m). We will arrive to Capuliyoc at approximately 10am.
Trekking to Capuliyoc – Santa Rosa (6-7hours)
The trek begins at abra Capuliyoc (2945m) with an amazing view of the snow-capped mountain Padreyoc. We will then descend slowly, passing through the towns of Cocamasana (2407m) and Chikiska (1911m) until we arrive at Playa Rosalina (1550m) on the river Apurimac.
After lunch, we will begin to ascend until we arrive to our camp site in Santa Rosa (2000m).
Dinner and rest.
Day 2: CAMPING SANTA ROSA- MARAMPATA-CHOQUEQUIRAO
We will continue our ascend up the mountain for about 3 or 4 hours, until we arrive to the town of Marampata (2918m), trekking about 10km with a difference in altitude around 1000 meters. We will then walk for about an hour more at the same level to arrive to our camp site.
After lunch we will make our first visit to the ruins of Choquequirao, the administrative sector, the main plaza and the sector of the llamas. We will then return to the camp site, have dinner and rest.
Day 3: CHOQUEQUIRAO-PLAYA ROSALINA
After breakfast we will make our second visit to Choquiquirao, visiting the sector Hanan, sector Urin, Sector Qolqas, Ushnu and Casa Sacerdotal. We will see amazing views of the valley of the river Apurimac, with the snow-capped mountains of Choquetacarpo, Coriwairachina and Pumasillo in the background.
In the afternoon, after lunch we will descend until we arrive at Playa Rosalina where we will camp (4-5 hours)
Day 4: PLAYA ROSALINA-CAPULIOYC-SITIO ARQUEOLOGICO DE SAYWITE-BAGNOS DE Q´ONOQ-CUSCO
We will begin our ascend of the mountain very early to avoid the hot weather, arriving to Capuliyoc where we will take our private transport to Cusco.
On the way back we will visit the Archeological site of Saywite, the hot springs of Q’onoq, and finally return back to Cusco.
