SALKANTAY-MACHU PICCHU (5-6 DAYS)
This is an excellent route, alternative to the congested Inka trail. This route takes us through lagoons and snow-capped mountains, passing through high altitude places and being in intimate contact with the forces of nature and its incomparable beauty
Itinerary
Day 1: CUSCO-MOLLEPATA-SALKANTAYPAMPA
We will collect you from your hotel and travel to Mollepata, passing through Limatambo and the ruins of Tarawasi (6 hours).
After lunch and getting ourselves prepared, we begin our trek of about 4 hours until arriving to our camp site in Salkantaypampa. (19km., 7 ½ hours)
Day 2: SALKANTAYPAMPA-PASO SALKANTAY-WAYRACMACHAY
We will begin early to ascend the Salkantay trek (4650m) which will take us about 4 hours. We will then descend for about 2 hours until we arrive to Wayracmachay (Choza del Viento) where we will camp.
*You can do an alternative 1 day more in this route, to ascend to the lagoon of Umantay
Day 3: WAYRACMACHAY-COLLPAPAMPA-LUCMA
After breakfast we will begin our descend until Collpapampa, to finally arrive to Lucma where we will be able to enjoy thermal baths in a paradise like ambience. There will be a coffee tour organized by the local farmers.
Day 4: LUCMA-LLAQTAPATA-AGUAS CALIENTES
We begin early in the morning and trek 11km, taking us from the Intihuatana station on an old Inka trail until arriving to the ruins of Llaqtapata. We will then trek for another 11km, arriving to the town of Aguas Calientes where we will spend the night in a hotel.
Day 5: MACHU PICCHU-CUSCO
Early in the morning we will ascend to the city of the Inkas; Machu Picchu.
In the afternoon we will return to Ollantaytambo by train at 6:10pm and from there we will travel back to Cusco.
